Moving to sanitize road corridors in the nation’s capital city, Executive Secretary, Federal Capi t a l Development Authority (FCDA) Engr. Umar Gambo Jibrin, led a team of officials of FCT Administration (FCTA) to Kaura District. This was necessitated by the need for an on-the-spot assessment of the road corridor along the Kaura District Market which was originally meant to be a green belt but has been taken over by some persons and converted to sundry uses.
The Executive Secretary, who frowned at the development, directed that all relevant agencies and departments should reclaim the entire stretch of land and revert to its original purposes, stating that FCTA was poised to recover and preserve all road corridors in an attempt to restore some sanity into the managing of the city
The team was also at Beira Crescent , off Ademola Adetokunbo Street, Wuse II, where an allottee of a plot had carried out an excavation which has become a threat to all the neighbouring houses in a bid to demarcate his property with a perimeter fence. The Executive Secretary, who expressed displeasure at the development, directed that the allottee must be brought back to site to undo what he had done in order to restore sanity in the area and thus protect lives and properties of occupants of the neighbouring houses.
The FCDA Chief Executive later visited the national headquarters of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) where he was received by the president, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu. Welcoming the Executive Secretary, Engr. Mokuolu expressed delight at the visit which he described as the first of its kind by an incumbent Executive Secretary of FCDA, who are the master builders of the city. He added that Engr. Jibrin was a worthy ambassador of the NSE.
Engr. Mokuolu further noted that Engr. Jibrin’s handiwork was visible in Abuja in terms of renewed vigour in the provision of infrastructure as well as the completion of earlier abandoned projects. He said: “You are dear to my heart and your colleagues in the engineering profession. You don’t ask for favours and the country will still benefit from your endowment as you continue to justify the National Honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) conferred on you in 2011.” Responding, the FCDA boss said ”we will do our best to maintain the standard we have set for ourselves” and wished the NSE president a successful tenure.
