|The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has appealed to residents to continue to live in peace and harmony to ensure meaningful and all inclusive infrastructural development. The Director, Youth Department, Social Development Secretariat, (SDS) Mrs. Hajarat Alayande stated this at the event to commemorate the International Day of Peace held at the weekend at the FCT Pavilion. Mrs Hajarat Akayande informed that PEACE remains the antidote and catalyst for the development and growth of our economy and technological advancement, noting that its absence signifies disaster for the country.

She called for peaceful coexistence among the different communities, tribes, religions and political leanings in the FCT in particular and Nigeria in general, maintaining that its importance can not be over emphasized. The Director furthered appealed to youths in the territory to stay away from drugs, eschew all forms of violence capable of destabilizing the relative peace being enjoyed in the FCT. “Every one should preach peace and mentor the younger generation so as to enthrone the culture of oneness and co existence among them.

In a remark,the coordinator National Association of uniform voluntary organizations, Abraham Kwaghfan, “we are glad that the FCT Minister, Malam Mohammed Musa Bello was re-appointed as Minister of the FCT noting that his organization has continued to enjoy tremendous support from the FCTA through the Youth Department of Social Development Secretariat. While reiterating the importance of peace, he promised that his members will continue to put in their best to see that peace reigns in the FCT and the country at large.

The International Day of Peace also known as the World Peace Day was established by the UN in 1981 and is observed annually around the world every September 21st. The day is devoted to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of PEACE both within and among all nations and people. As part of its commemoration, the FCT Administration through the Youth Department of the Social Development Secretariat in collaboration with the National Association of Uniform Voluntary Organizations, organized a national leadership workshop to mark the 2019 celebration in Abuja.

The workshop also witnessed the unveiling of different skill acquisition products from the FCT Youth Center, Nyanya made by members of the uniform voluntary organizations including perfumes. The Organization thanked the FCT Administration for the opportunity to acquire skills at no cost from the youth department promising to always play a key role in efforts to enthrone peace in the country.

Most participants at the ceremony expressed their excitement to have been part of the program and pledged their commitment to ensure that peace reigns in the country. The FCT commander of Man ‘O’ War, Ayo John, DG Security and Forensic Studies in Nigeria, Amb. Morgan Okocha were among participants at the workshop.
