The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), on Friday appealed to the leadership of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider and reverse the planned withdrawal of some of its affiliate members.
The JUAC Chairman, Comrade Matilukoro Oluwakorode, made the appeal while giving update on the development to newsmen in Abuja.
Oluwakorode said, “As it stand now, I can’t point at what went wrong that led to the withdrawal of some of our affiliate members by NLC. I believe in no distance time they will get to the root of the matter and settle the issues amicably with their parent bodies.”
Emphasizing on the issue, he added that whatever the case may be, Labour is one and will continue to be one, adding that there will always be issues in any existing union and they issue will always be resolved amongst them.
He said: “As a labour leader I want to make an appeal to the NLC state that in issues like this, we will be waiting to know what really went wrong, by then we will be able to deal with the issues, but honestly speaking as of this moment I am talking to you I don’t really know what happened. As it is now they union is not yet informed officially or unofficially about their withdrawal of some its members from the NLC or TUC”.
“If truly they have taking such action, we want to believe that there is more to it. Even husband and wife use to have issues at home but they will still sit down and find a way to iron them out.
He continued: “Definitely you will agreed with me that there is no smoke without fire. Withdrawing members from JUAC is something serious so since then we reached out to TUC and they said they are not aware as we are not aware also.
“We held a meeting between our members to find out what what happened but as I am talking to you now I want to state it on record that I have not be officially or even unofficially inform about the withdrawal and the reason behind the withdrawal,” he added.
The JUAC Chairman also hinted that labour movements is a very formal and organised environment whereby procedures are being followed in resolving and management of issues as the unfold.
